The Lotus Elise here at Hofmann’s is a 1 owner 2003 “03 Plate’ which has covered a mere 33,998 miles. We took title of this car knowing it required some restoration so if your looking for a un-molested S2 Elise look no further and keep reading. Hofmann’s are very proud to have such great technicians that have done the following to the car; replaced alternator, fitted braided brake line kit, replaced front wishbones, refurbished brake calipers, rebuilt engine with new components and gaskets, powder coated anti roll Bars, brake calipers and suspension arms, refurbished alloy wheels and finally a complete service. All this work totalled in excess of £8,000.
The Lotus Elise S2 was announced on 9thOctober 2000. Due to European crash regulations Lotus needed a partner to help fund the project which came from GM in return for a badged and GM-engined version of the car for Vauxhall and Opel, named the VX220 and Opel Speedster. Both the S2 and GM versions were built on the same production line in a new facility in Hethel and shared many parts except the drivetrain.
The S2 started life by using the engine from the S1 Elise, the iconic K Series engine continued to be used until 2005 when the Toyota engine took over making the K Series car rarer each day. Despite on producing 120bhp this great little car sums up what true British sports cars are all about, lightweight fun! Colin Chapman once said “Adding power makes you faster on the straights, subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere” a statement Lotus still use with the Elise today.
