his 1972 Lotus Europa Twin Cam is a well-documented example of Chapman’s mid-engined sports car, finished in Lotus Yellow and showing 57,265 miles. According to the Lotus factory records, the car was built on 15th December 1971 and invoiced on 4th January 1972 to the Hallamshire Motor Company in the UK, supplied in component form. Chassis number 7*******P and engine number V**7 both match the certificate, which is signed by the Lotus Company Archivist. It was built in Lotus Yellow (L07), with silver wheels and wheel trims recorded as its factory option. There is no recorded colour or plate change, and the car has never been imported or exported. Six keepers are recorded since first registration on 1st January 1972.

The Europa arrived in 1966 and brought a mid-engined layout within reach of the enthusiast, built around a steel backbone chassis with a lightweight glassfibre body. The Twin Cam of late 1971 was a significant step forward. It adopted the 1558cc Lotus-Ford Twin Cam engine from the Elan and Lotus Cortina and lowered the rear sail panels to open up the view behind.
