Hofmanns is an independent specialist offering servicing and repairs for VW cars. We are a family run business, founded in 1949 by Fred Hofmann right here in Henley on Thames and serving customers throughout Oxfordshire and Berkshire. Our workshop is walking distance to the train station or town centre, and we have easy road links to both the M4 and M40 motorways.

Our team is led by Andrew Greaves who, before joining Hofmann’s, was the head of Reading Audi’s aftersales division. In the workshop we have two fully qualified VW technicians with over 25 years VW experience between them including diagnostics and systems qualifications for both passenger vehicles and vans. If you want the best for your VW, you are in safe hands!

To save your pocket our rates are less than the main dealer and we offer fixed menu pricing for the current range of VW cars. If you have a prized classic VW model our experienced technicians have the knowledge with general maintenance through to complete rebuilds. We use VW equipment and diagnostics, along with genuine VW parts that are covered by a 2-year warranty. VW specific oils are fitted, and we are able to officially record everything in your digital service book all without effecting your manufactures warranty.

We offer all the usual services you might expect from a well-equipped garage from tyres, brakes & clutch, crash repairs and diagnostics through to engine and chassis rebuilds for classic cars. We are unashamedly ‘old-school’ in that our technicians are experts and craftsman, able to conduct complex repairs and even fabricate entire new parts.

If you are short on time, we have a collection and delivery service, or you can take advantage or our fleet of modern courtesy cars. If it’s a simple job, we can offer while you wait appointments with refreshments and we will carry out a complimentary wash and vacuum after work is complete.

Phil

Technician

PJ is our workshop manager, MOT tester and resident VW and Audi specialist. Before joining our team he was with VW in High Wycombe for 15 years and he remains a huge VW enthusiast. When he isn’t at working (which is rare!) you will often find him in the workshop titivating his own, beautiful, VW Golf or out mountain biking. He has been in the motor trade his whole working life having started out with an apprenticeship at Pilbeam Motors in High Wycombe.

Dave

Technician

Dave’s careers started right here in Henley with an Apprenticeship at Bell Street Fiat. He then moved on to VW and Audi with Central garage where he was for 10 years before becoming a Bosch Diagnostics technician prior to a move to Mercedes. He was at Mercedes for a total of 22 years and achieved the highest acclaim of becoming a fully qualified Master Technician. Dave loves his sport and enjoyed a successful football career including a stint as a semi-professional on the Oxford City team. After Oxford City he continued to play locally but these days his main sport is road biking.

Andy

Technician

Andy is our resident German car expert, the bulk of his career (20 years) has been spent within Greenoaks Mercedes where he was a systems technician working across 4 separate dealerships. Prior to that he spent 11 years with VW & Audi and 5 years at Maltins Porsche, coincidently in the very same building that Hofmann’s now operate from. Another coincidence is that his apprenticeship was spent at Cotterill’s & Sons, the family business of our service advisor Sarah. As well as cars, Andy loves bikes. He like to compete in long distance trials and touring the countryside on a Sunday afternoon.
