The extraordinary Lamborghini LM002 here at Hofmann’s was first registered in in May 1987 and found it’s way to the UK in July 2016 following a major recommissioning of the vehicle by FEDE in Rome, Italy, costing in excess of 18000 Euros (circa £15000) with invoices for all works carried out. In January 2017 the car was serviced at Lamborghini Pangbourne where it underwent a full service, new battery, new fuel pumps and a complete Lamborghini health check with any issues found being rectified. and has now covered 16,000 kms from new. This LM 002 is sat on its original sand tyres but comes with a spare set of road tyres and the original tool kit is present.
Powered by Lamborghini’s 5.2 V12 this was the car that paved the way to off-road vehicles. Born out of the Lamborghini LM 001 project and the previous Cheetah, the LM 002 was the first real off-roader vehicle to be unveiled by Automobili Lamborghini at the Geneva Auto Show in 1982. Production then started in 1986 and only 328 were produced!
The powerful V12 allowed the LM 002 to hit 62mph in 7.8 seconds, which is mind blowing when you consider the weight of this thing, it can climb a 120% gradient and reach a top speed of 210 km/h.
A handful it may be, but the LM 002 looks and sounds like nothing else as it thunders off into the distance, something that can’t be said for many cars.
A legend was born.
