The amazing GTD 40 offered for auction here at www.selectinggear.com was first registered in the UK in April 1996 and has been loved and cared for by 2 owners in total. Finished in the iconic Blue with Silver Race Stripe, this lovely built GTD 40 has covered a mere 15,481 miles. Fitted with a Ford V8 Small Block this car really does have the sound to match the looks. The first invoice for this car dates back to 1990 for the first starter kit and has many more invoices and files to back up the build.
First produced in 1964 the Ford GT 40 took the world by storm! GT meaning Grand Touring and the 40 resembling the height, 40 inches! Based on the Lola Mk6 the Mk I, Mk II, and Mk III GT 40 were built in the UK. The GT40 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four consecutive times from 1966 to 1969, including a 1 – 2 – 3 finish in 1966 infront of Mr Henry Ford II.
Many replica’s have been created since but GTD Supercars lead the way been the most respected builder of GT40 replicas in the UK in the late nineties and had the necessary facilities and talented engineers to make an excellent job of it. GTD supercars first started out as agents for the KVA GT40 Replica but it wasn’t long before they had redesigned the front and rear of the KVA chassis and were selling the cars as GTD’s. As often the way with bright young engineers, they weren’t happy until they were building the whole car to their own standards and many of these still take pride of place at GT40 events today.
