Hofmanns is an independent specialist offering servicing and repairs for Lotus cars. We are a family run business, founded in 1949 by Fred Hofmann right here in Henley on Thames and serving customers throughout Oxfordshire and Berkshire. Our workshop is walking distance to the train station or town centre, and we have easy road links to both the M4 and M40 motorways.

For over 20 years, Hofmann’s have been passionate about Lotus cars. We have successfully raced these wonderful cars for over a decade and understand all their performance attributes and occasional weaknesses. Having previously held main dealer status before Lotus re-adjusted their dealer network, we have a team of highly enthusiastic Lotus trained technicians, so whether you require a service, trackday preparation, upgrades or just some friendly advice on how to improve your car, you can rest assured you are in great hands at Hofmann’s.

To save your pocket our rates are less than the main dealer and we offer fixed menu pricing for the current range of Lotus cars. If you have a prized classic Lotus model our experienced technicians have the knowledge with general maintenance through to complete rebuilds. We use Lotus equipment and diagnostics, along with genuine Lotus parts and oils that are covered by a 2-year warranty.

We offer all the usual services you might expect from a well-equipped garage from tyres, brakes & clutch, crash repairs and diagnostics through to engine and chassis rebuilds for classic cars. We are unashamedly ‘old-school’ in that our technicians are experts and craftsman, able to conduct complex repairs and even fabricate entire new parts.

If you are short on time, we have a collection and delivery service, or you can take advantage or our fleet of modern courtesy cars. If it’s a simple job, we can offer while you wait appointments with refreshments and we will carry out a complimentary wash and vacuum after work is complete.

James

Technician

James has had a lifelong passion for Motor Racing, both cars and bikes. Having been with us for 15 years he is at the core of Hofmann’s Motorsport where he excels working on Lotus cars and race cars. His fastidious approach is well suited to completing geometry setups, engine builds and race prep. Outside work he loves to race himself. On his R1 bike he competed in the New Era championship and in cars he has raced a 205 GTI, a heavily modified mini and won races alongside Chris in his Lotus Europa. Currently he is preparing a unique single seater “GRM 750” for the Formula 750 championship.

Hofmann’s Owner

Chris has a Product Design degree from Brunel University and a lifelong passion for Lotus cars and Motorsport. He started racing as soon as he could drive and has since competed with much success in a diverse range of cars from Historic Lotus Elan 26r, MGB, various mighty Group-C sports prototype cars, Lotus Elise S1 in Britcar, Lotus Exige in British GT and LOTRDC, Lotus Europa in GT Cup and Lotus Cup as well as UK and Euro FunCup with many race and Championship wins along the way. He took over Hofmann’s in 2007 as an ailing Vintage car business and has turned it into the vibrant multi-faceted motor trade business it is today with (of course) a heavy focus on Lotus.

Using experience gained from many years racing, and winning, with a variety of Lotus chassis in series which include British GT, Britcar, GT Cup and LOTRDC, we have arrived at this ultimate specification of damper. Our dampers with their unique damper valving are capable of transforming the cornering capability of your car and has several key advantages over the competition.

Nitron NTR 1-way 46mm Dampers (Hofmann's SPEC)

The Fast Road is the entry level NTR shock available as a 1-way adjustable damper. This shock is popular with predominantly road-use customers who drive hard and fast; demanding the best from the chassis but require a degree of comfort. Softer valving and springs combined with the ability to run at original ride heights (and slightly lowered if required) result in a great road shock with superb all-round capabilities. As this shock is part of the NTR range it will perform consistently during a week of blasting round the Nurburgring if required and can be rebuilt to any of the other NTR specifications in the future.

Nitron NTR 3-way 46mm Dampers (Hofmann's SPEC)

Our NTR 46mm Race shocks have competed in hundreds of races and benefit from a decade of evolution. Run on the original factory GT3 Exiges, these shocks have been honed to perfection and use Nitron’s very best parts combined with an unrivalled development program.

Using the superior 46mm piston from the RacePro range of NTR shocks; this kit is designed for serious race use and has been adopted (where regulations permit) in almost every Lotus race series around the world. The kit comprises four 3-way adjustable dampers with fitted springs. Tailored to high-profile drivers, the NTR Race shock’s performance is achieved through accurate control of its 3-way independent damping. Instant feedback is transmitted from the wheels, allowing the limits of traction to be confidently explored.These shocks are designed to run inverted for reduced unsprung mass and therefore optimum performance. Dampers are delivered preset with a full compliment of bearing spacers ready to fit to the car.
