Here at Hofmann’s we are delighted to offer for sale this wonderful 1955, BN1 Austin Healey 100/4.  Now finished in Sapphire blue metallic over red leather & carpets with black hood, the car originally left the Longbridge plant painted in Carmine red over black seating on 19th April 1955 and could, if desired be put back to this with a good base to start.  Retaining its original engine and 3 speed gearbox with overdrive, which is all in fine working order, this makes for a fantastic opportunity for any prospective purchaser to own a fully numbers matching and very lovingly cared for ‘Big Healey’ having been thoroughly maintained mechanically regardless of cost which is portrayed in the vast history file that accompanies this car.

Purchased by its current owner in November 1999, this car remained in the UK until August 2004 when it moved, along with the owner to the warmer climes of Southern France. Here it resided until April 2019 when Hofmann’s collected and returned the vehicle back home. During his ownership the car has undergone an extensive overhaul of the drivetrain, suspension and electrical systems. Some highlights of this include a brand new wiring loom, full strip, clean and replacement of any necessary components for both the front and rear suspension and braking system, full clean & underseal of all wheel arches and floors, full strip down of engine bay, cleaned and repainted to include stoneguard and undersealed & all new brake pipes.  More recently we have fitted a brand new set of chromed wire wheels provided by MWS, which compliments the vehicle’s brightwork beautifully and carried out a full interior seat trim in Red leather with black piping and carpets with new seat foams fitted, all supplied by AH Spares.

The Austin-Healey 100 is a sports car that was built by Austin-Healey from 1953 until 1956.

It was developed by Donald Healey to be produced in-house by his small Healey car company in Warwick, Healey built a single Healey Hundred for the 1952 London Motor Showand the design impressed Leonard Lord, managing director of Austin, who was looking for a replacement to the unsuccessful A90. Body styling was by Gerry Coker, the chassis was designed by Barry Bilbie with longitudinal members and cross bracing producing a comparatively stiff structure upon which to mount the body, innovatively welding the front bulkhead to the frame for additional strength. In order to keep the overall vehicle height low the rear axle was underslung, the chassis frame passing under the rear axle assembly.

Lord struck a deal with Healey to build it in quantity, bodies made by Jensen Motors were given Austin mechanical components at Austin’s Longbridge factory. The car was renamed the Austin-Healey 100 with the “100” being named by Healey for the car’s ability to reach 100 mph +.
