ABOUT THIS CAR

Hofmann’s have the pleasure of offering to market this truly iconic and beautiful series 1 ½ Jaguar E Type Roadster 4.2.  Finished in its original Carman Red paintwork over Black leather, this fully numbers matching example was originally manufactured on 31stMay 1968 and was supplied to its original distributer, Ritchies of Glasgow on 20thJune the same year.

Having been lovingly cared for by its current owner since July 1984, this wonderful E Type delivers everything you would expect from such an iconic and classic car. The engine is beautifully smooth and very responsive having been set up by Janspeed some years ago, through the gears the car performs fantastically well and through the corners the ride and handling is truly effortless, with little or no rattles from body work or trim. This car is a true drivers car and ready to move into the next stage of its fantastic history. Featured in two magazine articles during this period (Sports Car Monthly – September 1985 &  Fast Lane – October 1993) both of which are supplied with the car, along with its original books, a spare parts catalogue, various tools and spares, old MOT’s dating back to 1984, current V5 and Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate.

The Jaguar E-Typeis a British sports car that was manufactured by Jaguar Cars Ltd between 1961 and 1975. Its combination of beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing established the model as an icon of the motoring world. The E-Type’s 150 mph top speed, sub-7-second 0 to 60 mph acceleration, monocoque construction, disc brakes, rack-and-pinionsteering, and independent front and rear suspension distinguished the car and spurred industry-wide changes.

The E-Type was initially designed and shown to the public as a rear-wheel drive grand tourer in two-seater coupé form and as a two-seater convertible “roadster. Later model updates of the E-Type were officially designated “Series 2” and “Series 3”, and over time the earlier cars have come to be referred to as “Series 1.

Some transitional examples exist. For example, while Jaguar itself never recognised a “Series 1½” or “Series 1.5,” over time, this sub-category has been recognised by the Jaguar Owners Club of Great Britain and other leading authorities. Series 1.5 cars were made in model year 1968 and some say combined the best of both series one and series two but without many of the cons!
