Here at Hofmanns, we have the pleasure of bringing to market this very authentic aluminum bodied C Type Evolution by Gregson .  Finished in the iconic British Racing Green with period interior in green leather which also extends to the surrounding cockpit, and sporting the silky smooth Jaguar 3.4 straight six engine running triple weber carburetors which is mated to a 4 speed gearbox with overdrive.

Built in 1999 by John Gregson ‘s company Classic English Racing Autos Ltd that eventually became Proteus, this car has a full aluminium body & an interior very close to the originals.  The body is of hand rolled 1.6mm Aluminium sheet, 11 pieces forming the rear section & 17 for the front end.  John Advised limited rolling of the sheets which gives a genuine period look of racing C types.  The car is fitted with only one door as per the originals and over its 19 year lifetime has picked up a lovely patina reminiscent of the originals, including visible rivets under the paintwork and a few dents/marks which all add to the authentic looks and feel of this car.

The interior of this car is as close to a Jaguar C Type as any car could achieve, the internal bodywork is finished in silver and the instrument panel and controls are faithful to the originals. The drivers view over the long bonnet is through the wraparound Mille-Miglia screen.

The C-Type was successful in racing, most notably at the Le Mans 24 hours race, which it won twice.

In 1951 the car won at its first attempt. The factory entered three, whose driver pairings were Stirling Moss and Jack Fairman,  Leslie Johnson and triple Mille Miglia winner Clemente Biondetti, and the eventual winners, Peter Walker and Peter Whitehead

In 1953 C-Types won again, and also placed second and fourth. This time the body was in thinner, lighter aluminium and the original twin H8 sand cast SU carburettors were replaced by three DCO3 40mm Webers, which helped boost power to 220 bhp

Duncan Hamilton and Tony Rolt won the race at 105.85 mph (170.35 km/h) – the first time Le Mans had been won at an average of over 100 miles per hour (161 km/h).

This is a fantastic opportunity to own and experience many of the thrills the 1950’s C Type racing drivers of the day did
